Alex Smith hates going into the office, especially when he finds out it is the day when interns are going to be assigned. However, one intern quickly catches his eye. Daphne Lane is definitely a beauty but it appears she wants nothing to do with Alex's unconventional appearance, his shaved head and piercings. However, his coworker, Emily Pierson, would love to get to know Alex a bit better. When she saves him from an increasingly awkward phone call, Alex is rolling with laughter at her gumption. An easy friendship starts to form between Alex and Emily, the woman he has always overlooked in the past. Alex is still trying to catch Daphne's eye, but it is Emily who he looks forward to spending the evenings with, talking and watching movies.

It is the company's Mardi Gras party that proves to be the catalyst Alex needs to open his heart about his true feelings for Emily. But does she reciprocate or has she put Alex firmly into the friend only column of her life?

Sandy Lynn has created two charismatic and affable characters with Alex and Emily. Their sexual chemistry is definitely present, but it is the easygoing manner they have with each other that truly will capture readers' hearts. Both of these people have been wearing masks for a long time, afraid to show their true personas to the world, but they discover that when they are around each other, that fear goes away. Watching them battle jealousies, envy, and longing makes for good storytelling and compelling character growth. Everyday Masks features a dynamic duo that excels both at friendship and at love. I really enjoyed the discoveries Alex and Emily made about each other. It made their happily-ever-after that much more sweet and entrancing.
