| What's a half demon girl to do when caught between an 800 year-old scrumptious vampire and a deliciously hot professional hockey playing demon? All while chasing an ancient evil who thrives on the blood of innocent children? Those are the questions addressed in the first book of the Soul Catcher series. Our heroine, Jessie, is a half demon with the power to send evil souls straight to hell. She is approached by Drake, our scrumptious vampire, with a job offer. He wants her help in catching an ancient vampire, Alexander, who has spent decades taking and torturing young children. Though extremely wary of other supernaturals, Jessie accepts. While on her quest, Jessie encounters a multitude of other supernatural beings, among them is Jeremy, an NHL player who just happens to be a really hot demon who becomes fixated on our heroine.
Reading a book from an author I have never read before, to me, is like going on a blind date. I always expect the worst while hoping for the best. After reading the first few pages of this book, I had made up my mind that I was going to metaphorically sleep with this book. It was that captivating. The story is written in first person, which I am not a particular fan of, but that fell to the wayside, as the story and characters grabbed my attention and would not let go. The gritty story line is lightened with dark humor and a cast of characters that I would looove to have as friends. The sexual undertones are pervasive without being cloying and leave the reader wanting a lot more. While the dialogue is graphic, it is not unrealistic. This author actually had the ability to use the word "snot" in a passage that was making me tear up! That is a feat. The romantic elements were handled beautifully and personally, I can't wait to see where the next book takes this cast of characters.
