Linus Masterson is an immortal from the all male island of Mannos. He’s left the island for the mainland in search of Alonzo a man who was exiled for refusing service to Phyneas, an ancient one on the island. He sees a waiter with the ear ring of the brotherhood meaning he had applied to go to the island. He acts on what seems to be a mutual attraction by inviting the young man home.

Adrianna Dane has written a rather exotic and erotic tale of a unique place with its own lifestyle, rules and a caste system that works for them. There are different levels from apprentices to those with authority. With the higher levels come different sexual roles and choices in sexual partners.

Linus’ life had become more empty, more full of doubts and questions with the loss of Alonzo. It rather spoiled the island for him in some ways and he needed answers that he thought only Alonzo could answer. Sam is a great character who can’t answer his questions. He’s just unique enough with a strength mixed with submission that calls to the man who could have had anything he wanted on Mannos, maybe could have had the same with Alonzo. Sam’s a straight forward kind of guy who seems to spur Linus into looking into himself for answers.

Ms. Dane has given us an interesting look at a different kind of world and culture that makes for some great reading.
