| Once there was a world with two fractions, the city of Cabrilan and the city of Truarc. One was barbaric while the other was highly intelligent. Then the Great Split came and tore their world apart, leaving behind a world of fear and they were both slowly dying out. Tiana is the daughter of the High One, the ruler of Truarc. Legend says that Tiana is also the daughter of the Goddess Lynx, and that she is the very likeness of her. Tiana is being trained by Sybilla to be a Grand Alchemist, few novices rise up that high.
Tiana was in the temple when there was a big disturbance then a porthole opened and out came Lord Kavan, the ruler of Cabrilan. It is also said that the God Arcus fathered Kavan. Because of the dwindling number of their women, there is a declining rate of births so the Cabrilans came ever so often to take women back to their world to help populate it. Kavan saw Tiana and was mesmerized by her. He knew she was the woman that legend said was destined to be his mate. Tiana was only in her thirteenth season and too young to take as mate, so Kavan told her he would return for her in seven seasons. Tiana on the other hand had very different ideas on the subject. The seasons have come and gone and now Tiana is hiding from Kavan. She refuses to mate with him, she thinks that Kavan and all Cabrilans are barbaric and wants nothing to do with him. Tiana has been taught many things about the mighty warriors and she believes it was their ancestors who split their world to begin with. Tiana does not believe that if Kavan fulfills the prophecy it will reunite their worlds as well as their people and that she will give birth to the God Child who will rule over all. What Kavan doesn’t know is that there is someone in his own house who would undermind everything he is working for. Someone who is a follower of his enemy Beltane and would stop at nothing to see both Kavan and Tiana dead and their world destroyed forever. Kavan is fighting for the very existence of both worlds; he is barbaric, overbearing and demands total obedience. Tiana is falling in love with Kavan but refuses to call him Lord and Master. Will these two worlds survive and will Kavan win the heart of the only woman he will ever love? I like the way Ms. Woods' mind works. There was so much action and a strong love interest. There is a betrayal that cuts to the heart of the Cabrilan Empire. Janet Woods has created so many strong characters and I hope she has plans for them in the future. I’d be very interested in finding out just what will happen in the future with the God Child, as well as several other characters in this story. I enjoyed this book very much, and I think any romance fantasy lover will.
