Ezekiel, one of the Sons of Amber, has been genetically enhanced as a risk-taker and pioneer. Caught aboveground by the failure of his spaceship on a seemingly deserted planet with dual suns, he loses unconsciousness. Zeke awakens to find himself underground and nursed by a beautiful human female, Angela, who is a member of an order which concealed themselves on this planet during the Jit war. For the first time in his short life, Zeke is experiencing the unexpected and profound emotion of love. Bianca D’Arc possesses a special talent for creating a futuristic world scenario which could be all too possible. Her grasp of the scientific background is excellent; and her characters are especially well-drawn and three-dimensional. The plot line, and especially the sensuality, will impel the reader to race through the story to discover the outcome. All in all, this initial installment in the Sons of Amber series is an excellent novella which should prove to be a re-read as well.
