James Carter is a forty-nine year old man about to become a grandfather. For nine years he’s lived in grief over the loss of his wife Betty. Lately he’s been staring at a faded photo, remembering his first love. With a renewed spirit he buys an RV and decides to travel as he’s always wanted to. First he decides to go look up Carla .

Carol Ann Erhardt pens a great tale of grief, memories and loss. James’ life is well portrayed by the author. He and Carla were so in love at seventeen. The air force, travel, work, building a family pull him down a different path than the one they had talked about. Seems the news that his baby is expecting a baby is one of those cataclysmic things that happen in life to get him out of himself and his misery into living again.

Ms. Erhardt makes this a really sweet tale when James finds out Carla still lives in their home town. The only thing wrong with this story is that we don’t get to see if they build anything from the memories. It’s all left to our imagination. Just a hint that there may be a happy ever after for both of these people is all we get. Most readers have a pretty active fantasy life. This one is great to use for building our own story. Ms. Erhardt gets us started well.
