| Dean and his fellow Cyber Action Team (CAT) team members) literally stumble across a video feed of a vicious act that leaves the team shocked and nauseated. It leads them to Satan’s Playground, an online group of sick and depraved individuals. Their investigation leads them to Hope Valley and to Sheriff Stacey Rhodes.
Sheriff Stacey Rhodes came back to Hope Valley to live a quiet life and take over for her father. Dealing with drunks and minor incidents brings her an element of peace. She never expected that within her quiet town lurks a heinous serial killer. Dean and Stacey's attraction for each other is instant and all consuming. Stacey is not a woman to shy away from anything. Outspoken, she’s more than willing to tell Dean exactly how she feels. Wow does she. Stacey pleases Dean in many ways and her forthrightness allows him to act on his desires. Fade To Black is my kind of book. It’s sensuous, dark, and spine-tingly riveting. Leslie Parrish is a totally new author to me and this is the first book I’ve read by her, but it won’t be the last. What I found interesting was not only does the hero and heroine have a point of view, but so do several of the characters, including the villain. Their POVs work well and add to the story. The dynamics of the CAT team operatives with varied expertise and experience is woven throughout the story, allowing for future novels smoothly. This is not a story for those who are squeamish with its grisly, horrifying crimes. However, the developing relationship between Stacey and Dean add sexual tension and lightness, which in turn creates respite from the gruesome murders and suspense. Fade to Black is masterfully written and a wonderful surprise from an author who is not new to publishing but new to the suspense genre. She shows a talent for twisted, dark suspense. It is a definite for those like me who want a suspense novel that packs a punch and leaves a lasting impression.
