All is not well in the immortal realm or in Bellemare. Lucien, King of the Damned is the only one who's happy. His manipulating seems to be paying off as Queen Tania makes a bargain with him. She's so despondent that the bright world of the faeries is darkening to reflect her mood. The Kings of the Blessed and the Unblessed are still waging a battle Lucien started. Juliana, Merrick's wife has somehow gotten herself encased in stone. It will take some powerful luck to put the worlds back the way they were.

Michelle M. Pillow continues this enchanting tale with one where everything seems to be going wrong. When someone like the evil Lucien gets what he wants the world becomes a darker place. Some secondary characters have to step in to try to stop the destruction and sadness. Even my favorite sprights, Halton and Gorman, aren't up to as many of their usual antics.. Help comes from Mia a nymph enslaved by Lucien and William the youngest brother of Hugh and Thomas. They have little to gain from their actions but these two great players manage to put a different spin on Lucien's plans.

Even though this has some dark undertones where some of our favorites from book one seem to be suffering, all is not lost. Some new players step up and steal our hearts. Lily and Roslyn of the faery world shine no matter how frightened they are. Mia, a woman with nothing to lose since Lucien already has half her soul, still refuses to give up. Heinic the garden gnome, Giles the tipsy household brownie at Ballemare, and Dvorovoy Djedoesja the always lost woodland gnome are also great. This is another fantastic tale that I couldn't put down. The ending is as warm and bright as the first book though the players and author had to work harder to get us there! Ms. Pillow weaves this storyline just right to get us involved and loving it throughout.
