| Lindsay McCallister was a promising ballerina when her half sister disappeared eight years ago. She joined the police force and has tried to ease her guilt by working to solve the mystery.
She's made detective, and is assigned to the Unsolved Mystery Task Force. She hides here relationship to the missing Tricia, afraid she will be kicked off the case. Lindsay is partnered with Sergeant Joseph Dragani, the newly appointed head of the Task Force. He is street smart and curious about the only woman on the task force. He also has a reputation as a womanizer. His priority case is an art theft and a murder. It turns out that the two cases are related. Murderer Douglas Bly knows something about Tricia. He's running a mafia-like operation from prison. Tricia and Joey must ferret out the details -- Lindsay's life is at stake. Lindsay's parents, a well-respected congressman and a flower shop owner, both believe Tricia is dead. Lindsay, however, refuses to give up hope. The Washington, DC, setting is an interesting backdrop for McNicholas' novel. The details of ballet workouts also add to the story's believability. Lindsay is bright, outspoken, and a virgin. She falls for Dragani's charms, and his mother's cooking. The two build a cautious relationship. The conclusion is filled with danger and suspense, although I was not fully convinced by the revelations of what happened to Tricia. The problems were resolved perhaps a bit too easily, but this was an enjoyable read.
