| Samantha "Sam" Holland and her beau, Nicholas Cappuano have been through hell in recent months. Things seem to be looking up as she's promoted to Lieutenant on the Washington, DC police force and he's sworn in as a US Senator. The bright beginning doesn't last long as murder, mayhem and the media seem to be constantly interfering in any romantic interlude.
Marie Force continues the tale of Sam and Nick who most readers may have met in Fatal Affair. If you haven't read it you'll want to but there's enough information brought forward so there's no loss in continuity. This is another excellent suspense filled with characters we met in the first book. They're moving on with their lives, some in titillating and often fun ways. Like Freddie Cruz, Sam's partner, who finally finds a reason to give up the celibacy that has been driving him crazy. We're again pulled into the lives of Sam's and Nick's families. They add even more punch to the storyline with their courage dealing with the devastation that has affected their lives. The author seems to draw us in so that we feel we're as close as we can get to the action and the people. Camaraderie among most of the officers on the police force as well as back biting political agendas seem realistic. There are several villains in overlapping parts of the story. I'm hoping at least one of them, Sam's nemesis on the police force, will get what he deserves in the next installment. Marie Force is a superb suspense writer who mixes just the right blend of sex, humor and edge-of-the-seat action into a powerful book.
