| Eva Dantanian, daughter of the goddess Isis and the fallen angel, Uzza, is the top demon hunter for the Demonic Management Agency. When Nephalim start disappearing around the country, the investigation leads too close to home. The demons are escaping from Hell, and it's got something to do with her family. With the help of an old frenemy vampire, Rahab and his clan, Eva has to close the Hell Gate or mankind is doomed. But someone is tipping off the demons and she's not sure who she can trust.
I am very surprised that I liked this book as much as I did. Normally, books written in first person aren't my favorite, and the romantic thread was very thin, but to my great shock, I was totally enthralled. The character of Eva was a cross between Carrie Bradshaw from Sex in the City and Wonder Woman. Totally, my kind of heroine! The story was told in a gritty, graphic manner that was interspersed with enough humor to keep it from being too dark. There was heavy duty mayhem and action, and at no point did the story ever drag or become tedious. There were so many twists and turns that I was kept guessing until the very last word on the very last page. Ms. Riddle did a superb job of weaving in different points of view from other characters so that the reader did not get bogged down in Eva's story alone. The other characters were just as interesting and compelling as the heroine, each with their own detailed backstory and distinct personas. Fate of the Fallen offered a unique look into a world that encompassed almost every paranormal element known, and I for one will be sorely disappointed if we don't see more from Eva, Rahab, and their fellow Demonators.
