There are nine short stories and two one-page poems in this anthology. My favorites are Linda Lattimer’s Frieda Mae, Crime or Punishment by Giovanna Lagana, The Stick by Richard Satterlie, Long Distance Call by John Everson and Eleven-Thirty Midnight Road by Vickie Britton and Loretta Jackson.

Linda Lattimer’s short story Frieda Mae is an excellent story of a family disaster that seems unlikely to have a happy ending without help from the spirit world. Ms. Lattimer weaves together an excellent tale of family love.

There’s a not-so-nice family in Crime and Punishment, Giovanna Lagana’s contribution to the book. Drug addict parents, a child forced to steal, a boogeyman in the night, Ms. Lagana makes them all into an exceptional tale.

Teenagers coping with the death of a girl some loved and others obviously didn’t fuel the story Eleven-Thirty Midnight Road by Vickie Britton and Loretta Jackson. A Ouija board that some of us remember from our teen years is a fun part of the plot. I loved the surprising twist at the end.

Those of us who find ourselves wishing we had some help to cope with the bullies of the world will thrill to the book The Stick by Richard Satterlie.

Have you had a lover or spouse betray you? You might want to read Long Distance Call by John Everson first!

I prefer my mystery, horror, suspense and spirit world without all the sound effects of movies and TV shows. FEAR gives me stories that meet all of my needs and others that come close. The overall excellence of the writing, the surprises, the smiles during some of the stories and the fact that I’m still smiling about some of the ways the authors solved problems for the characters all make this a worthwhile read.
