| Raina Cotterell is an archeologist participating on a Mayan dig. She is working with a group of fellow archeologists; one of them is Burke O'Neill. Burke is determined that Raina is meant to marry him and help him further his career. While working on the Mayan site, Raina discovers an entrance to a corridor that leads them to a temple. They are surprised when they discover they are not alone. Somehow they have gone back in time to the year 750 A.D. Inside the temple Al-Mon is participating in a ritual to pick a bride. When he sees Raina he assumes she is a gift from the gods and destined to be his. Raina and her group are overwhelmed by what they see. Not only have they gone back in time but also the Mayan prince; Al-Mon could be mistaken as Burke's twin. Although unlike Burke who Raina thinks of as arrogant and obnoxious she is drawn to Al-Mon. She quickly finds herself falling in love with a Mayan prince and soon to be made queen of the City of The Sun.
Feather on the Wind is a time-travel adventure that takes place in a Mayan city in the year 750 A.D. There are many facts about the life of people who lived during this time. The rituals and clothing are described and help the reader to visualize the setting. The main characters are Raina, Al-Mon and Burke. Raina is a new archeologist that has yet to make a big discovery. Raina has never been in love. She loathes Burke, who thinks she is just being difficult. He feels for sure that she will give in and marry him. Burke is an arrogant, egotistical chauvinist. Al-Mon is unhappy with his lot in life. He feels he has no freedom, that his sole purpose in life is to serve his people and produce an heir. He has low self-esteem due to the fact that his head is not sloped. He was born away from the midwives and was not strapped to the shaping boards when he was born. When he sees Raina he thinks that even without the sloped head and cross-eyes she is beautiful. The interaction between these characters is volatile. Burke is jealous of the attention Raina gives Al-Mon. He is quick to strike out in anger and quickly becomes Al-Mon's enemy. Through the descriptive writing of Catherine Snodgrass we clearly picture the setting and characters. The story asks how far someone will go for love. The romance is passionate from the beginning. This time-travel adventure is a creative and passionate romance that will keep the reader entertained.
