Cat Johnson has done it again! I don’t know what I would do if there were not works available from Ms. Johnson; she definitely knows how to develop a plot, expand the story, and present a breath-taking finale. A Few Good Men is just that sort of novel. In this day and age, with the Iraqi War on our minds, and in the hearts of many of us who have family serving overseas, this is a poignant look at some of the heartaches and elation that our service members have to face daily.

Staff Sergeant John Blake was the commander of a tank platoon in Charlie Company, Alpha Section, Tank Two, White Two, in Iraq; his tank team was a close-knit group who ate, slept and worked side by side throughout their second assignment in Iraq. Between their Iraqi missions, they were stationed in Germany. There families were there waiting for them—except for Blake. He had no one except an old grandmother who seldom recognized him anymore.

One of his platoon mates, known to all as Jazzy, was being ridiculed because he was reading a “chick book,” written by a woman known as Summer Winters. She was from New York, and was a writer of erotic romance; she had signed onto the internet to a military site and become a pen pal to Jazzy. She was not involved with him except as a friend; Jazzy was happily married. He shared the book with the other men, except Blake, and they all loved it. When Jazzy was injured during an assignment, Blake had to log onto his e-mail and notify Summer why Jazzy was unable to write to her.

This basic storyline is greatly expanded through Ms. Johnson’s gift of sharing the written word with her readers. She told this story in such a way that I actually felt I was there, both during the dangerous missions and the hot, steamy sensual scenes created in cyberspace. This military novel is different from any of the others she has written; if possible, it is even better! I recommend it highly!
