Bone Cold-Alive was a rock band which was losing its focus. Fletcher, the manager and financial brain of the group told all four men to go home for two weeks! He told them not to go vacationing; they MUST go home! Ian Murray (aka Johnny McMurray) went to Portland to see his estranged family. Phillipa Gray, childhood sweetheart of Johnny, had gone home to visit her Grandmother who had a heart attack and then broke her hip. Phillipa had not seen her “Gran” in two years; she toured as a cellist and didn’t get to visit often.

Fletcher, although he did not acknowledge the fact, had an agenda of his own to accomplish during the two-week break. He was hosting a wedding at his home in three months for Ron Gregory (his least favorite band member) and his fiancé, which Fletch had inadvertently learned was his daughter! He had to find Beatrice, Brittany’s mother.

This marvelous book is primarily about Johnny (Ian) and Phillipa; however, the on-going attempt by Fletch to locate Beatrice in Australia was deeply woven into the story. Ian and Phille (his nickname for her) have spent their lives each wondering what would have happened “if” they had not been separated by their parents! Kay Layton Sisk is a new author to me; however, she has incredible talent to be able to tell their story, both then and now, in a concise manner which gladdens the heart!

Phillipa’s Fiddler is so named because Ian/Johnny) was a child prodigy and chose to put down the violin and pick up a guitar to make his music. This caused seemingly irreconcilable damage in his family. Ms. Sisk boldly manages to intertwine Johnny’s past with his love of Phillipa and his disappointment with his family (and theirs with him). This book has the love of family, emotionally stirring scenes and a very strong storyline. Ms. Sisk does a wonderful job of depicting love, between not only a couple, but two families who had been estranged for twenty years! I think the book is a great success and recommend it to anyone.
