| Raised as nobility by a strict protestant father in London, Gwyneth Carswell was cast out in disgrace when she became pregnant out of wedlock. Packed off to distant relatives in Scotland, Gwyneth was soon married off to a brutish, abusive man. Now a widow, Gwyneth is content to raise her son Rory alone and in relative peace. When she finds a severely injured man on a nearby battlefield, it is her duty as a healer to try and save his life. When that man turns out the be Laird Alisdair MacGrath, sworn enemy of her clan the MacIrwins, she realizes her compassion may have endangered her and her son's very existence.
There are few things I like better than a good Scottish romance and My Fierce Highlander had all the earmarks of a great one. Sexy hero, solid entertaining story, excellent writing and flow, intrigue, deception, and wonderful secondary characters and it is the debut of a new series.(I do LOVE series) Oh, and some truly inspired love scenes help round out what has the potential to be a monster success of a book. Alisdar is a wonderful depiction of a highland hero. Rough around the edges, kindhearted but fierce, loyal and (shocker) he was not afraid to follow his heart. I absolutely loved this anomaly. He had been widowed for two years before he met Gwyneth and he had loved his wife dearly. He loved her so much that he remained faithful, even after her death. *sigh* That is romantic to the Nth degree. So who wouldn't be all over that? Now, as laudable as Alisdair was, I have left off mentioning my feelings for Gwyneth. I did this for a reason. She didn't leave me with warm fuzzy feelings. I appreciate her tragic backstory and the struggles she had undergone. I took that into consideration. She still left me cold. She was the only fly in the ointment of the marvelous book I hope you will reserve judgment and try this book on for size.
