| Ethan Keller's a young man who usually has his face in a book when he's not working for a local grocer. Ethan's a little different than most young men his age because he doesn't run around thinking only about girls. He just doesn't realize how different he is until Travis walks into his life. He finds himself somehow drawn to Travis in a way he doesn't understand during a time when homosexuality isn't spoken of. This is seventeen year-old, Ethan’s story of enlightenment, and his journey to find love.
When Travis first sees Ethan, he knows instantly that Ethan is like him. He wants to know him better, but he also knows the dangers of living a life in the old west with another man. I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It was such a well-written tale of times past. Mark Probst has depicted such a vivid time and place that the reader can go along with these two characters and feel a part of it. I felt the pain and fear of living as a gay couple during this time as these two young men struggled, not only to survive but also to love. He has truly captured what it could have been like during a time when such was believed to be shameful and even a punishable crime. This is truly a story of the old west fame with an eye opening twist. I would highly recommend it.
