| Sarah is just barely hanging on to her business fifteen months after her husband’s death. The police and insurance company ruled it a suicide, so she only received money for the car he died in. She has had nothing but bad luck since then. Fire, theft, and rumors about the status of the business have plagued her. One day she is robbed at gunpoint by what seems to be a sweet little old lady, and a very tall police detective named Randy comes into her life. At this point, everything in her life steps up, including the danger to herself and the ones she loves.
I really enjoyed this story. Randy and Sarah are great characters. Sarah is trying to survive and make a life for herself after the death of a much-loved husband. Randy has buried himself in his work after the death of his grandmother. He feels guilty because he was not around when she suffered her final illness. The two are very good for each other. I loved Sarah’s neighbor Maggie, the woman is a human whirlwind, but much more organized. She seems more of a mother to Sarah than Sarah’s own mother. Chris is an interesting character, and Diana is a supremely selfish woman to take money from Sarah. She is living in a mansion with a personal trainer, while her sister in law is just barely surviving. I can understand why Sarah would argue with her late husband over giving that selfish cow money. It was not hard to figure out who was behind Sarah’s troubles, but the author made the plot very interesting right up to the end, which was very satisfying.
