| Demelza is a witch and the daughter of the village witch. She is a part of the village, but very much alone because of what she is. She is a healer and does not work like the village women, but when a pack of devil dogs led by a human with fire-filled eyes kills a villager and threatens the rest of the village by cutting off food and fuel, she is sent alone to seduce and kill the fire eyed human. Kevern was once a knight, until he committed adultery with the queen who turned him in to the king. He was not executed, but banished to run with the hell hounds. The two loners are attracted and act on that attraction. Demelza no longer knows if she can kill Kevern to save her village..
This tale, set in a dark ages type era, has very dark, gloomy overtones. Demelza really doesn't have much of a life. She sleeps with the village men, but none would consider marrying her because she is a witch. In her own way, she is as much alone as Kevern, although she committed no sin to become what she is. This is a story of two lonely souls finding each other as much as anything else. The sex scenes are well written and the wording fits in well with the setting of the story. Overall, a good paranormal tale.
