Imagine co-workers competing to be fired! Anne Wyatt has a job offer to do Public Relations at a hospital in California, the state she loves. The promise of four weeks severance pay for every year worked to the person let go in a downsizing attempt at her job seems too good to pass up. Now she just has to figure out how to be the one who gets chosen. The competition between her and Sheila, who also has another job to go to, is fierce right up to the last moment of decision. While the girls dream up newer and better ways to upset the boss Ken, Greg, and Lenny just go about their daily lives

Libby Malin pens a tale that is hilarious while still being poignant and introspective. Anne and Ken come from totally different backgrounds but both are at a crossroad in their life. Each has battled their family for a right to choose the path they want. We get to know both of these people on a personal level as they share their stories in a way that reflects the decision making so many go through. Anne's awakening to see the boss as he really is will be easy for many to relate to. Ken has tried so hard to not be like his father but in many ways has to admit that he's learned something along the way that may pathe the path he wants to travel.

The author's characterizations of all the players will make them seem familiar to anyone who's been in the work force for any length of time. Office politics, romance and the fun of not having to care whether one succeeds or not makes this a lot of good reading that may fit in with the reader's own fantasies! Ms. Malin makes this book refreshing and unique by blending serious life altering decisions with the innovative competition between the two women.
