Andrea (Andy) Ridgemont is a stained glass artisan who lost her two twin daughters in a school bus accident. She and her twelve year old daughter, Alyssa, live in poignant motionlessness not really understanding where to go with their lives. When Alyssa suggests they pack up and go visit Andy’s childhood home in Lambert, PA, Andy’s substitute route sends her on a discovery that opens doors. Stumbling upon an infamous house referred as the Collier House, that many feel is haunted; she begins to have compelling dreams and visions. In the year 1917-18 the five family occupants each died within a year of each other. After she decides to buy the house, she meets Steve, a man that may be the only person who can change her life around and make her feel alive again.

Steve A. Catalano writes about haunted houses and is very interested in the Collier House. When he meets Andy he feels something for her that he has never felt for any woman other than his aunt and mother. But the love he feels for Andy is a special kind of love. She bedazzles him. When his old girlfriend shows up and threatens to destroy what he has with Andy, can Steve convince Andy that his old fiancée is just a psychopath, stalker that is out to ruin him?

FIRST SNOWS is a tender book that many can relate to, especially those that have shared a loss. The author affectionately composes a story that displays how someone can react when they have lost a loved one and how sometimes it is difficult to go on with life. When Steve reached and kissed Andy’s hand I could almost visualize the way his eyes were gazing her way. I loved the way he understood what she was going through and he approached her slowly until they were sure about their true feelings. You could practically feel all their emotions. I enjoyed reading how the mysterious love from a century before worked as a sketch in their liaison. The secondary characters and Alyssa gave much depth to this remarkable read.

Jane Shoup is an artistic writer that puts you in the setting of the whole story. She writes from her heart allowing the reader to be instantaneously drawn into the story. Every time I read one of her books, it gets better and FIRST SNOWS is no exception. Ms. Shoup pens a superb read that leaves a long-lasting impression.
