| Richard’s need to be married by his 25th birthday led him to a party he would much rather not attend. But his attention is caught by a beautiful woman who seems to be different from the other women at the party. Julia is desperately trying to save her farm and put food on the table by thieving. Richard catches her and issues his own brand of punishment, all the while trying to convince her to marry him so he wouldn’t lose his land.
Set in a historical period, I enjoyed the way the author used more modern language with her characters. I tend to stay away from historicals because I prefer my heroines to be more capable and strong characters. Julia was the perfect heroine in my book because she knew what she needed to do and even though it was unheard of in her time, she did it. Getting caught wasn’t in her plans, but if you have to get caught, it might as well be by such a talented and smart rascal like Richard. While this story takes place in a short period of time, the reader is entertained with their exploits in bed as well as their snappy dialogue. The reader is left with the promise of a very happy and sexy life for Julia and Richard.
