| Kate has been in love with Todd Wyatt for half her life. He seems to be the only person in town who doesn't know it. She values their friendship, but things have changed since their kiss a few months ago and now she is ready to act on her feelings. Todd's resistance to her is running out, and the attacks on Kate's bakery are becoming more dangerous.
The sexual tension between Kate and Todd is evident from the very beginning. But Todd warns Kate away because he knows he's not good for her and doesn't want to jeopardize their friendship by acting on the new and intense attraction he feels for her. His protectiveness of her says a lot about the type of person he is and the priorities he has. However, Kate is more than willing to take matters into her own hands. She knows what she wants and she is ready to get it, even knowing that their friendship may not survive. This is a really great friends to lovers story and a nice way to end this series. The long standing friendship grounds everything that happens between Kate and Todd throughout the story. And the subplot about the attacks on the bakery keeps throwing them together, even when things get a little strained between them. It definitely helps to have read the other stories in this series, as there are references to events from the previous stories, but it can be read as a stand alone.
