| Byron Renfield was mourning the death of his sister Winifred, Fred, and her mate, Grace. He’d been reading the letters written to Grace by her niece, Violet and falling in love. They’d all known Grace was dying, and her vampire mate, Winifred, would die with her. Both loved Byron to distraction and worried about his survival alone, so they did a little post mortem matchmaking. Grace invited Violet to visit knowing it would be after their deaths. Byron was stuck with a beautiful, exciting and very tempting human female alone on his island for the whole weekend, during a terrible storm. He must resist her, mating with humans was against the law and meant death. He’d die when his human mate died, though her lifespan would be lengthened. Fred and Grace had four hundred very happy years together. But, since he was the youngest vampire ever elevated to Dominie, their golden boy, they’d have to make an example of him. Byron would rather die than live without Violet, but death wasn’t in his plans just yet. He’d have to be very clever and very careful, but he had a plan to make everything work out alright. If all went well, he could disappear before they found out about Violet. But, could it work?
This was a very sweet love story, but the sex was intensely passionate. Byron and Violet had a raging hunger for each other that refused to be sated. Byron had loved his sister and her mate and knew how happy they’d been. That helped him overcome his adversity to breaking the rules by making Violet, a human, his mate. He’d never broken any rules before, so following his heart was especially difficult for him. He prematurely made her his mate misunderstanding her enjoyment of the sex, thinking she meant she was begging for forever. Violet didn’t understand the all consequences of mating with Byron, she just knew how much she desired him. She had moments of panic when realized she knew nothing about the man she was forced to spend the rest of her life with. The consort given to Byron by the Dominie, Rita, appeared and she and Violet hissed like cats at each other. But eventually Rita agreed to help Byron with his plan to try to save their lives so they could live happily ever after. Violet calmed down once she realized Rita wasn’t Byron’s wife and she hadn’t made the biggest mistake of her life. Forbidden: The Claim by Samantha Sommersby is a deliciously entertaining read that I enjoyed more with every page I read. A delightful story with intensely passionate lovemaking and a unique take on vampirism that was new and interesting.
