Errolyn Carlisle lived with her uncle, Sir Albert, and his daughter, Lady Ann. Searching for herbs one day was a group which included Lady Ann and Errolyn and their personal guards, Lord Stone Grenville, Earl of Stonewall, kidnapped Errolyn. The mistaken identify of his captured lady was just the first of many mishaps to plague this story. Lord Grenville’s younger brother, Thomas, bound for the priesthood, was murdered while delivering a marriage proposal to Lady Ann. Stone vowed to kill whoever had murdered Thomas. Therefore, the ransom was not money, just the person who had committed this act of violence.

Forever and Always is a very detailed exploration of the highland historical genre. There were skirmishes and captures, wounded and murdered victims, and cover-ups for murder and blackmail. With all this going on as well as the many characters, you might expect the story to be boring or confusing. That is definitely not the case! I absolutely could not quit reading and completed the book in one sitting. I do not usually care for books which have violence or intrigue, but I cannot state emphatically enough how good this book was!

The way Ms MacQuigg told the story was remarkable and fascinating. She told of betrothals forced, marriages planned and determination to see through to the end; she also discriminated between true love and lust for power and prestige. For instance, Lady Ann was not interested in the Earl of Stonewall until she discovered he was now a Duke! She did not care if her actions hurt her cousin; she only wanted to be in the spotlight and be constantly adored by others.

What about Sir Derek who was Errolyn’s betrothed? Why was Lady Ann always whispering with Derek? What happened when Errolyn was removed from Lord Grenville’s on more than 3 occasions? There is so much going on in this book I can guarantee that you will not be bored! You will miss a treat if you do not read this book!
