Jake is not used to having to work at "getting the girl," but as he finds out Samantha isn't just any girl, she's THE girl.

Ms. Laird does an excellent job of bringing the inner workings of the entertainment business to light. Jake Alexander, although a new addition to the world of stage plays, is an old hat at dodging the limelight and giving into pressures. Samantha is unwilling to give up her identity just to be another notch on his bedpost. The two of them heat up the book and bring realism to loving each other, but unwittingly hurting those around them.
