| From the streets of Chicago to the seclusion of northern Minnesota is a lot of miles and a huge change in lifestyle. When a job went bad all of Lara Crosby's friends seemed to go with it. Is life in the wilderness a haven or an escape? When Jacob Sumner literally crashes into her life in his SUV Lara has to look at life differently. He has amnesia and some really bad folks are shooting at them. The few clues they have to Jacob's life lead them, and the villains, back to The Windy City.
Linda Morris tells a tale that brings both the surroundings and the people to life. As a born and bred country girl the north woods are familiar to me. This author makes the area and the people who live in it real. Anyone who's ever been to Chicago will recognize familiar landmarks also as the city and some of it's most popular areas are built into scenarios. Jacob, Lara, and other characters are developed with empathy and compassion. They've both had to live through some traumatic times. As they draw together against bad guys who seem to be trying to kill Lara their past sometimes haunts their present. The real friends in life don't quit when times get bad. Some of the people Jacob worked with on the police force come through for him. Even Lara's mother who isn't very likeable all the time proves to be a staunch supporter when needed the most. An on again, off again budding romance partners with some nail biting suspense to keep this tale fresh on every page.
