Rebuilding Winter Creek would be easier if it they could only find people that were not only interested in preserving history, but also weren't afraid of ghosts. Though not everyone can see them, Jen can, and there are a lot of them at Winter Creek. Being a psychic isn't easy, but it's even harder when problem after problem creeps up. Not only does she have personal problems, and work problems, but now she's got Winter Creek problems as well. Between the rancher wanting to move his cattle, her grandfather's progressing illness, her family issues, and serious problems at work and in her love life, Jen finds it easy to make the promise to her grandfather that she will stay away from men for a predetermined length of time.

Her annoying ex-boyfriend insists on telling everyone at work that she picked him up at the bar, broke his heart, and left him, while continuing to pursue her anyway, and it's driving her crazy. If only there was a way to get rid of him, but the new rancher poses a problem and a solution she isn't sure is a good idea. He's interested in her and she's interested in him, but the promise to her grandfather isn't something she takes lightly, and now she's torn about the whole situation.

Adam wasn't looking for love, but he's hooked good and sure. Jen is stubborn and thick-headed, and not your average woman. She seems to know exactly what he isn't saying, and that doesn't help his case at all. Add in her unloving family and the annoying ex-fiance, ex-boyfriend, and Adam has to decide if her baggage is too much to handle.

Though an interesting concept, the story fell flat and lost my interest rather quickly. The story was full of contradictions that I was not able to ignore, and I found myself not caring for the characters because they were not realistic or enjoyable. There were a few times when the heroine let her secret slip, or made it obvious, and the hero never called her on it, and later seemed genuinely surprised. It made me think he was too stupid to be a hero I could fall for, and so I lost my interest in him. Jen was on again/off again so much that I felt like I was on a roller coaster, along for the ride, but not getting much out of the long fall and ride back up to the top. She says one thing, but acts another way. No wonder her ex was so confused about her. It says a lot that Adam toughs out the story with her and doesn't give up on her.

Some of the other conflicts may be resolved in later stories, but through half of this story I was left scratching my head because I didn't understand the heroine's motivations for some things, and her reactions to somethings seemed extreme until the end of the story. I hope this author continues to improve and would be interested in reading future stories from her after she's gotten some more writing under her belt.
