Lord William Foxton must consummate his marriage of twenty years and impregnate his wife or he loses his cushy income. When he meets his bride for the first time since the wedding when they were children he realizes she’s the pirate that robbed their ship.

Amy Ruttan has built one heck of a romance here. By far the most powerful characters are Lady Madeline and her friends. As the pirate, Captain Meg, she sails the seas robbing from the rich, using the money to free slaves. As friends, those she has cared for will do anything to help and thank her for being who she is and doing something that was unheard of in this historical period.

In contrast her husband is a lazy, aristocratic man living on the stipend she sends him. Fear of losing the money puts him in action but this excellent writer makes him into a man able to stand beside and stand up for the woman he learns to love.

Well done secondary characters like John who raised Madeline, Mama Lee, Cristal and others add much to the tale with their loyalty. Their innovative ideas help the woman who freed them from slavery and treats them with respect.

The personas of Cousin Jeremy, Commodore Lapointe, Sir Wilkins show all too well in this author’s hands the evil side of nature.

Excellent dialogue, details of history, romance, erotic love scenes, superb characterizations all add up to one great story by an author who knows how to spin a tale that I couldn’t put down.
