After leaving the army rangers six years ago, Luke Rafferty has finished his medical training and is now an ER doctor. Now instead of facing open hostility on the job he is faced with the abused children who are brought into the ER by the head turning social worker, Devon Manning. Being a social worker is rewarding for Devon, but also a painful reminder of her past. Luke finally breaks through Devon’s emotional barriers, but when tragedy strikes, can Luke convince her that their relationship is just the complication she needs?

There’s a reason why Ms. Walker is a national bestselling author and that reason is books like this one. She gives so much detail and insight into her characters without bogging down the story. Two emotionally and physically scarred inviduals could not be more perfect than the two she created in Luke and Devon. Devon’s lack of trust and past hurts will garner your sympathy while Luke’s frustration and heart break will bring out your compassion. Despite the emotional scars and turbulence, there is a lot of chemistry, both sexual and emotional, between Luke and Devon. While the attraction is instantaneous, past experiences dampen their immediate reactions, but not for long. Before you know it, the clothes are flying and the scenes are hot enough to require the reader to get something cold to drink. The love scenes with Luke and Devon are thrilling and will leave the reader very satisfied.

The support cast in this story is phenomenal and full of all kinds of individuals. Besides all the normal friends and family you may see in any given book, this one has some unusual characters that are sure to keep the reader on the edge of her seat. There’s the unsteady twin brother of Luke’s, Devon’s devious family members, and Luke’s former army buddies. Throw this stunning cast in with this amazing story and this is book is what I consider a guaranteed great read.
