| Silken is a renowned courtesan, so famous that he is able to pick and chose his male or female clients. In a world where Vampires are feared and reviled as evil monsters there's no way that he would chose to service one, even one that promises to pay him handsomely. Because he is so good at his craft, he's almost made enough money to buy his contract and start his own house. Without warning, his great life falls apart when his contract holder gambles away his contract and all his savings to a keeper that has a house that only services men. He prefers women, and he heard his new Keeper isn't the kind of quality that he's used too. When he finally gets there, he finds out reality is much worse than he thought. He's got to service anyone that pays, including the Dark ones.
FREEDOM RISING is an interesting take on the life of a courtesan in a different world. The Dark ones are also known as Vampires, and they are feared and scorned in Silkens world. Nanashi is the vampire that wants Silken, and he gently tries to woo Silken to his side. I would have liked to have known more about Nanashi and why he was so attracted to Silken, because he was an intriguing character. I liked the way Willa Okati handled the relationship between the two men, and that Silken was willing to do his best no matter what. If you are looking for something a little different in your romances, give FREEDOM RISING a try.
