| In 1630, the brooch crossed the Atlantic Ocean with Deirdre and Patrick Sullivan. Having received the brooch from her great, great grandmother, Deirdre trusted the powers associated with this brooch. In 1863, during the Civil War, two women were left in town to try to run the general store. Arden and Kay were sisters-in-law.
Kay maintained her father’s store while trying to take care of Arden who was expecting a baby. Kay lived in the country but traveled into town each morning; she stayed alone, but she seldom was. Her “other” responsibility was operating part of the Underground Railroad! She wore the brooch everyday and CPT Conrad, a veteran of the War of 1812, used the brooch as a signal to her for transport. On one trip through the area, LT Marsh Nolan and Kay were married in the middle of the night. Later, while Confederate troops were marching toward Gettysburg, a drunkard stole Kay’s brooch; CPT Conrad ran after him and, finding Kay’s husband, brought both back to the store. Kay learned that he was also on his way to Gettysburg! Ms. Sarita Leone has certainly maintained the high standard set by the previous book in the series. So much happens in this book that it is impossible to stop reading. The ending is such a shock! The plot is amazing…and the brooch travels again. Don’t miss this second book in the series; you will certainly regret it!
