Katherine Culhane (Kat) has the unique gift of remote viewing. Unfortunately, because of a stalking ex-boyfriend, that gift is splintering. She travels to San Antonio to visit her sister, who then leaves for a trip to Hawaii with her employer, his wife and daughter. When someone kidnaps them during a stopover in San Diego, Kat needs her remote viewing skills more than ever, but has less than her usual success. While in San Antonio, she runs into a former boyfriend, Mike D'Antoni, who is one of several partners in the Phoenix Agency, a shadowy company not only doing security work, but also black ops. Once they discover the kidnapping, and Kat's stalker is in custody, she is able to zero in on where the hostages are. Though she and Mike had broken up two years earlier, Kat still loves him, and they, together with the Phoenix Agency, work to rescue to hostages.

An exciting book from start to finish. The characters were interesting and well done, from the two main characters, Kat and Mike, to the bad guys who'd kidnapped the four hostages. The people from the Phoenix Agency provided interest and excitement, especially with their interest and acceptance in psychic phenomena. The love developing between Kat and Mike is beautiful to read about, and the special connection between the married Phoenix partners is a delight. The author has written a tightly-woven mystery so expertly that even though I thought I had all the facts and had figured everything out, the end result was quite a shock. I stayed on the edge of my seat all the way through the incredible suspense that built until they found the hostages, leaving me breathless at the end. The interplay of the various agencies and factions was masterful.

This author is one to watch and I will put her on my list. I look forward to her next book with anticipation.
