| Katherine Wheeler figured her run of bad luck finding a job had to end at some point. While viewing online offers, she saw an offer that looked too good to be true, but she decided she had nothing to lose. She was rewarded with a two grand salary per week and a hunk of a boss to boot.
Pieter Van Rijn, a rich business man in his own right, seemed to run through secretaries like a mad man running through a bush fire. At least until Katherine bestowed her charms on him. She discovered why his heart was sealed and figured out how to open it and love him to her heart's desire. The tough part was getting him to open up. She followed her heart when the next chance came along. The novel has a good story in it. Even though it is written in the first person it is somewhat unnerving at times because the story is sometimes showing, sometimes telling. It's possibly due to all the thinking. Every now and then, I had to reread to realize she was thinking rather than saying something. From time to time, dreams do come true. Katherine, however, really had her work cut out for her. The novel is mostly about Katherine and her best friend Leslie only giving hints of seeing Pieter Van Rijn enter and exit a few times at least until near the end. I found Katherine and her best friend real and sometimes funny, even though Katherine felt a little too perfect. I felt another secondary character named Jonah to have more reality to him. Yet Pieter felt almost unreal almost as if he wasn't actually there. I would have liked to have seen Pieter exercise more passion or something that would have made him feel more genuine. It isn't my favorite novel yet it was a good read.
