The story begins in the year 1871 off the coast of Georgia. On the Island of St. Brigid's there stands a lighthouse. The lighthouse keeper is Holly Drummond who is assisted by his granddaughter Livvy. They are surprise one day by a wounded man that has washed ashore wearing prison clothes. Gabriel Hampton is an escaped convict. He had jumped from a prison ship after being shot in the leg. He is desperate and willing to do anything to survive. He threatens the Drummonds at knifepoint before fainting, leaving them to decide what to do with him. They help him heal physically, as well as emotionally and spiritually. Livvy and Gabe become closer as the story progresses but obstacles will come between them. It will take trust for the love they share to survive.

Gabriel's Angel is how Gabe describes Livvy. With her golden beauty and her honesty and caring, he sees her as an angel. Cynthia Thomason has written a wonderfully descriptive and emotionally stirring adventure. It tells the life of living and working at the lighthouse. Through the author the reader gets a sense of the loneliness Livvy sometimes felt on the island. She describes how Livvy worked to keep the light shining and the pride she felt with what she and her grandfather were doing. There is intrigue and secrets to discover. The romance is sensual and the chemistry between the Gabe and Livvy, undeniable. Trust is the big issue throughout the story. The descriptive writing brings the era to life. This is right after the Civil War and Gabe was a Union officer in Georgia. The two main characters are fully developed physically as well as the way they think. The dialogue flows smoothly and conveys the thoughts and emotions of the characters. I found this an exciting story that kept you guessing until the very end how everything would turn out. This is a historical romance that I am sure will appeal to many and I recommend it highly to everyone.
