| Claire is hard at work to make her Hotel Gothica a reality. The task is difficult since her fiance took off with his new girlfriend and all of their money. She had to sell everything she owned to raise the finances but it will soon be a reality. The centerpiece of the main entrance is a genuine gargoyle imported from Scotland . This gargoyle has a long and strange history as the guardian of the Clan MacGregor, and a local MacGregor will do anything to attain it. Soon after its installation, a young woman is attacked by a strangely dressed man, similar to incidents reported in a journal that came with the statue. The MacGregor of the time made a deal with the Fae, and the gargoyle, Lochnivar Stone is the result. The statue is not made of stone but an actual being, with feelings and desires and now that he is free he wants Claire.
This is an interesting tale with some great characters and an unusual hero. The gargoyle. The story has a lot of promise but needs some filling out here and there. For example, the heroine's relationship with her thieving ex-fiance David has limited closure. I thought embezzlement was a crime in Australia as well as here? He seems to have gotten off scot-free. The relationship between Claire and her gargoyle seems to develop way too quickly, from hello to sex almost immediately. The love scenes, however are very well written and the action scenes quite exciting. I also liked the way Claire dealt with the Unseelie who wanted to reclaim Lochnivar. I really enjoyed this story and with a little more detail it would be truly outstanding.
