Von was an army ranger on a mission. She had to get the people that had killed her lover and companion. She stalked them, and when the time came, she did the job. While she was setting up her targets, she noticed something unusual. There was a stone dragon that looked like it was following her. Knowing that couldn't possibly be true, she ignored it. When a man stepped in and tried to save her, she didn't need his help. But she needed him…

Pajja was tired. Tired of watching the humans and waiting to be called. This time he got involved, and broke his rules. He couldn't resist the feisty human, if that's what she is. He's been watching her, and thinks that she might be more than human. If that's true, it could mean the beginning of a whole new world.

Dragon's watch 1: Gargoyles was an interesting take on dragons, magic, and the end of earth as we know it. Shelby Morgen created a character in Von that is strong and magical. Von knows she is different, she is to busy trying to survive to really care or wonder just how different. Pajja is an interesting character as well. He never comes off as being all powerful, just a man with special powers who is lonely. You find out later that he is definitely very powerful. I liked this story, I thought it was well thought out and intriguing. The ending is somewhat of a surprise, it's not what you really expect. This is a to-be-continued type of story, with quite a bit left hanging. That's not to say that you couldn't read this and be satisfied, but you will certainly want to find out what happens next. This is the start of a new series, and I can't wait for the rest of it.
