| When I decided to read this book, I had already read another of Rachel Brimble's novellas so I thought I knew what to expect. I have never been more wrong in my assumption. Not only was this book a great and satisfying read, but it completely blew me away.
Mark Johnston, Kate Marshall and James Marshall were friends when they were teenagers. Only problem was that Mark never told Kate how he felt about her and lost her to James. Now, five years later, Kate is back in their hometown with her daughter a year after her husband died. They met again at a play that one of Mark's client's is starring in and the sparks fly instantly. When Kate sees Mark, she instantly tells her friend Lucy that its time to go. Mark sees her and won't let her go... ever again. This story touched me in ways that I never expected. It was sweet, sassy, sexy and highly emotional. What I didn't expect was the extra intrigue about who and what was trying to keep Mark and Kate apart. I can totally understand why Kate was hesitant in completely committing to Mark -- she has a three year-old daughter to think about and what the impact of their relationship would mean to her daughter. Mark was completely adorable in trying to convince Kate that he loved her and her daughter. The lengths that he went to were great. The secondary characters were good. Marcia, as the diva client; Lucy, as Kate's best friend; Liam, Mark's assistant; Underwood, as the sneaky paparazzi and Jessica, Kate and James' daughter were well written and thought out characters. They added to the depth of the relationship and eventually courtship of Kate and Mark. Don't pass this book up. While it was emotional and humorous at times, the dialogue and characters are what drew me in and never let up. The chemistry between Mark and Kate was real and potent but not overly graphic. It was more sensual and loving. I highly recommend Getting It Right This Time for anyone that has wanted a second chance at the one that got away and won't let that person get away this time. I look forward to more Rachel Brimble in the future.
