Gideon is the oldest male of his race, an ancient being whose knowledge of the elements makes him the strongest healer of the Demon race. His reputation has been respected by all for a thousand years. He prides himself on his control at the time of the hallowed moons and yet he almost attacked Magdalegna years before. That is why he had lived ever since in self-imposed exile. Magdalegna only saw his withdrawal as a confusing and humiliating rejection. Now the resurgence of necromancers is threatening his people and Magdalena is in danger, which Gideon cannot abide. Gideon and Magdalegna are destined for each other, but both will have to learn trust and respect to nurture a love that could indeed be legendary.

Gideon: The Nightwalkers 2 is a story I was waiting for and it did not disappoint me at all. Jacquelyn Frank is wonderful at blending romance with action and keeping the pace moving. Her characters have a complexity that is engaging and draws you into their world and emotions. Demons’ emotions are intense; Gideon and Magdalegna, as well as old friends who are now supporting characters, will display quite a range of feelings. The depth of their love and the pathos of the past mistakes will keep you wondering if they can possibly overcome misunderstandings and face new dangers together. Their passionate encounters are steamy and help drive the romantic plot rather than being an afterthought or added for sensational value. I enjoyed learning more of the culture and history of this demon society. This tale cemented my disgust at the horrific consequences when the human necromancers misuse magic for reasons that seem completely evil. Although individual necromancers are not in the spotlight in this story, I didn’t mind, as I was much more interested in Gideon, Legna and their friends and family. Clearly mischievous, wonderfully faceted and mysteriously powerful their relationship is a delight. The culminating battle scene was tense and kept the pages turning. I was completely entertained and hooked even deeper by Ms. Frank’s great Nightwalkers series.
