| Tessa Jones was temporarily hired to cook for cowboys on the Triple H Ranch. She was awakened one night with a man entering the house she was staying in which belonged to a friend's brother. He was gone for several months. Tessa was awaiting trial for arson for a fire she admitted to but didn't do. She never expected this stranger breaking and entering her temporary home to be a warrior for her cause.
Jacob Scott decided to return home to spend Christmas with his sister and brother-in-law, Christina and Gavin. They had fifteen month old twins and he couldn't stand not being with his only family during this celebratory time. Imagine his horror when he was faced with his own gun in the hands of a stranger! The last thing he needed was involvement with a woman -- his ex had almost ruined him for any interest in another. Ms. Anna Kathryn Lanier has done a good job of integrating these two characters into a storyline that sizzled and moved so quickly it was hard to put down. These main characters were so different—they were raised in opposite type households and had experienced completely different parents' attention. The secondary characters were such a great benefit to the book. It was hard to imagine how the story would be told without each one. This book had no slow areas. It flowed so well, it was impossible to put it down. There was a sexuality which, while explicit, was not awkward in the telling. It was a great book which expressed opposites dealing with similar—those entirely different—obstacles in their lives. It seemed as if there was no way for there to be a happily-ever-after. The ending was unexpected and made me love the book even more. I highly recommend this book to all except the faint of heart. I will certainly look for this author again in the future.
