Kiya is a goddess that has been reduced to being a priestess in Egypt in Cleopatra's time. One of her first names was Isis, and she has been living among humans ever since her husband Osiris died 1,000 years ago. She is an immortal that must drink blood and destroy people in order to live. She is currently living as an advisor to a young Cleopatra, before Cleopatra became queen of Egypt. Through the careful guidance of Kiya, Cleopatra is finally at the point where she will be able to take over from her brother and gain the throne. Kiya has advised Cleopatra to make an alliance with the Roman emperor Caesar. Rome sends an Ambassador to Egypt to talk to Cleopatra's brother the king, and secretly talk to Cleopatra as well. When the Roman ambassador Darius arrives, Kiya can feel him, and immediately sees a vision of him on the shores. She immediately knows it's her true love coming to her at last. Unfortunately, this is Egypt, and the court's intrigues can cost anyone, even a goddess, what they hold closest to their heart…

Goddess of the Dead is a take on Egyptian legends. It is a good short story, with plenty of action to keep you entertained. The book felt a little rushed, as if the author was in a hurry to get it done. Overall though, it was a very good story, and I would try this author again with out hesitation.
