| Rowan Summerwaite is the vessel of the Goddess Brigid and the Hunter for the city of Las Vegas. She is also the foster daughter of the leader of the Vampire Nation. Her job is to enforce a treaty between the Vampire Nation and the other paranormals. There is a vampire serial killer loose in her city and the new vampire Scion is slow to eliminate him, so it is up to Rowan to enforce the law. The Scion, Clive Stewart, is very attractive and he and Rowan cannot seem to keep their hands off of each other, no matter how wrong it seems for two adversaries to get involved with each other. In spite of all of this, Rowan is determined to find the killer and put an end to his very long existence before he kills any more women.
Lauren Dane has the start of another great series in this book. Rowan and Clive are memorable characters with incredible chemistry despite their distrust of each other in the beginning. The author does a wonderful job of creating a world that humans know nothing about and her characters are so real that they virtually walk off of the page. Rowan, in particular, is very appealing. Her life is so contradictory; she was raised by the head vampire and now kills them. Her relationship with her foster father, who incidentally killed her parents, but ensured that she was educated in her mother's ways as well as her father's is very complicated though it is obvious that they love each other deeply. The plot is very exciting and totally engrossing with some extremely hot love scenes. Las Vegas is the perfect setting for a novel like this one.
