Golden Man by Claire Thompson is a wonderfully detailed love story involving the world of dominance and submission. Eric obviously loves Johnny. He is very patient with Johnny and willing to help Johnny become what he desires, the perfect sub. Sometimes the scenes could be interpreted as cruel or demeaning but Eric knows what Johnny wants and needs to be happy. Johnny being so new to realizing he is both gay and into being bound and punished could so easily have been hurt by someone else or been treated in a way that would have negative effects emotionally. These two men work together beautifully and their relationship is depicted as a growing and lasting love that will reach out to the readers. This is a couple that enjoys a masochistic relationship so the story is recommended to those readers that will not be offended by scenes of bondage and sexual torture. For those readers that enjoy these kind of activities the scenes are sizzling in detail and the reader will be able to feel the desperation and desire that comes from the characters as they give into their passion. As they deal with their new relationship Johnny also has to deal with his family. The anger and bigotry that is displayed by his father is frightening. I would like a sequel to this story just to see what becomes of the father. There is a level of violence that makes the readers heart race as they anticipate the father’s actions. The emotions are strong as Johnny must deal with his hurt and anger. Readers will experience these feelings right along with him and admire how these situations are handled in the story. Golden Man is a look into the world of BDSM with supportive and compelling characters that demonstrate love and caring as they deal with their growing relationship and the difficulties that they face from outside influences. This fast paced emotionally stirring story touches the heart and I highly recommend it to the readers.
