| Sarah Kendrick grows sadder and sadder at her inability to conceive a child. It doesn't help that the ¡concerned' females of the times make known their feelings about her possibly lacking in some way. Her husband Andrew doesn't know what to do. Sarah won't talk about it. She just seems to withdraw from him. Possibly Christmas will give them a chance to talk and learn to love one another again.
Lia Sebastian does a sensitive job writing about the heartbreak of not being able to conceive a child. This story is set in the mid nineteenth century but it's not any different today. The author does a great job showing that the marriage is strong no matter what. Andrew is probably not unique in his sensitivity but in those times when an heir was a necessity he's head and shoulders above many men of his times. This is a great woman who almost gives up on life before the two are able to communicate their feelings. Sarah is probably not the only woman to ever allow herself to assume what her spouse feels without talking about it. Ms. Sebastian gives the couple a happy ending that neither expected. She also leaves the reader with a sense of hope and belief that the two lovers will work things out. This is a wonderful Christmas story.
