Nissa McLean is a writer living a rather reclusive life in Florida. She is very good friends with her neighbor Louise Sinclair. While assisting her temporarily disabled friend prepare for a visit from her brother, she meets the very attractive Alexandros while scrubbing Louise’s floor. An immediate and strong attraction forms. Despite Nissa’s reserve about relationships and marriage as a victim of spousal abuse, Alex gets beneath her defenses and they fall in love.

This is a very good contemporary romance. Though it is a little slow to develop at first, obstacles to the main couple’s happiness soon follow, making this a much more interesting story. Nissa and Alex are extremely appealing characters, even when Alex is acting a bit like a spoiled brat. Nissa is a very strong character; she has overcome a brutal marriage, has a successful career, and is now trying to love again. The subplot of Louise and Philip is also very well written, and I enjoyed that story also. The only problem I did have with the story was with the large number of characters. I kind of felt like I was at a party with a group of people that everyone else knew well and I didn’t. A little more background would have been helpful. Also, Ocean Breeze and New York are described well, but “East of the Hamptons” is a strangely inadequate description for the house on Long Island. Sorry, you have a reviewer from the area here, and there is very little east of the Hamptons but Montauk (technically in the Hamptons as it is in East Hampton) and the Atlantic Ocean. That won’t bother most people, and the description of the house itself is very good. If you are looking for a well written love story with appealing characters, this is a very good choice.
