| Gillian Stone has a life most eighteen-year-olds can only dream about. She is the sole heir to a huge estate and an even bigger fortune. She spends her nights speeding around town in a fancy Jaguar with her cat Merrick. But Gillian's wealth comes at a price. She and her cat spend the daylight hours entombed in an ancient marble state all because an ancestor made a deal with a genie. And another catch, she has a very short life-expectancy. Now she's involved in some crazy escapades with her new hottie employee and his sister and the only thing that can help her is if she can find the genie and get the original wish and spell reversed.
This was an interesting supernatural read with a good balance of adventure, romance and comedy. The feisty fashion conscious heroine came across as real flesh and blood, which was no easy feat considering that she was encased in a statue every night until sunrise. Simply put the heroine was entertaining. Once I got past the hero's ridiculous name I found him to be the ultimate brooding alpha-male, in a good way. My favorite character in this story is Gillian's cat, he breaths new life into the average entitled, superior feline. Did I mention that I love talking cats, especially those with attitude? The supporting characters jump to life on the pages with strong emotion and realistic dialogue. However, there isn't enough background on the bad guy. It just feels like this part of the story is missing something and not living up to its potential. There is a mention of "voices" but they are never fully explained and I found this lacking. Overall this book had a great premise and is a solid young adult read.
