Bethany Irons was a gunsmith trained by her father. This occupation had been that of the Irons family for generations. The only problem was Bethany was a witch, inherited from her mother's family. When she touched an antique gun with a certain past she would be transported to that time into the body of the person that had held the gun. She was getting where her 'trips' were longer and scarier. Then a man brought in a blunderbuss that she was afraid to touch. She could even feel the vibrations coming from it wrapped in cloth.

Caleb Deane wanted his antique guns fixed up and wanted the best person to do it. He took them to Bethany. When he held on to the gun and touched her hand he too felt transported for an instant back in time. He talked to her about it and convinced her they would both go back and solve the mystery.

A trip back to 1811 England brought them on a quest for Queen Charlotte. To help her grandson escape from the dreaded Dartmoor prison. In the bodies of Annebell Winthrop and Ethan Delaney could they survive through numerous mishaps and get the deed done and get back to their real lives? Especially when Ethan had blood poisoning and didn't look like he would live that long.

IN THE SERVICE OF THE QUEEN by C. K. Crigger was an outstanding novel that I could not put down. It kept me enthralled from the first page to the last. An amazing tale of old England, with lots of humor thrown in with the two protagonists, along with the dangers of their journey. I would recommend this author to anyone, and I can hardly wait to read GUNSMITH II-SHADOW SOLDIER.
