| If this book is any indication of the success of this new author, then Ms. Sue Tumlin is in for an incredible career as an author; I certainly enjoyed the telling of this story which, by title seemed to be, maybe, western or historical in nature, but which was, instead, a beautifully contemporary story about a gorgeous man, Jason Cobb, who happened to be a half-breed (Comanche). The discrimination Jason had endured throughout his younger life had scared him and made living in the present very uncomfortable for him and everyone else who was, or wanted to be, part of his life.
Tonya Blake was a nineteen-year-old woman whose father died of a heart attack leaving her KB Ranch, an unknown (to her) property he had bought for her long-deceased mother. She had strict requirements about selling the ranch and could not touch the fortune her father had left her until her 21st birthday—two long years away! Her father wanted Jason (who owned the ranch next to his) to be her guardian, but for appearances’ sake, Jason insisted they marry. That would not have been a big problem IF Tonya had not liked her ranch foreman, Randy Smith, so much OR if Tonya had not met Sheila Gordon, whom Jason admitted he loved! What a mess! Ms. Tumlin has done a great job with her refreshing plot and the endearing characters she created to present to us as The Half Breed. The soon-married couple was well-off financially, and the others were by no means destitute. The fact that money did not solve all their problems indicated that, though the personalities were well-created, they did not lack stubborn pride even though their spirit was evident from the beginning. I truly enjoyed the story as it was told, even though I sometimes wanted to shake the whole cast and tell them to “talk” to each other. The surprising ending to the book brings the makeup of the book to come full circle. The author took a great plot, mixed in a few unique individuals, and made an explosive first effort for her book. I think it is great and would, gladly, read more from this author. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a poignantly written saga of true love and obstacles which impede the outcome
