| Hayley Randolph has it all a great job, decent wardrobe, cute figure, and all the designer handbags a girl could ever wish for – the only thing missing, besides love, is a checking account balance to match her passion for handbags. Hayley is forced to take a holiday job at a less than A-list department store to make more money to feed her obsession with handbags. Then Hayley finds her store boss murdered in the stockroom and she is the only person the surveillance videos show entering the area during the time frame of the murder. Hayley knows she didn't do it, so who did? Maybe the hunky Ty Cameron who heads up the store's loss prevention unit can help, he at least seems to want to find the truth.
This is the perfect mystery for those of us who love charming scatterbrained yet secretly smart heroines with true fashion passion in a chatty chic lit style story! The story is humorous and light-hearted despite the murder Hayley is investigating. Of course the gorgeous Ty helps Hayley focus on what is important, clearing her name and getting her reputation back and gives the readers that much desired spice in Hayley's otherwise messed up life. But Ty isn't the only hunk in Hayley's life, private investigator Jack also turns up just when things get nasty for Hayley. Even though I don't care anything about designer handbags, I enjoyed Hayley's antics even when occasionally she is a little too naïve for me to believe; she is still a delightful character. The mystery plot is intriguing as well as entertaining and I am looking forward to the sequel to this book. If you want a breezy cozy mystery to entertain and delight, you will like Handbags and Homicide.
