Growing up Celia Flynn was inseparable from her three best friends, Robert, Patrick and Freddie. But one day their friendship crossed over to a more adult love and Celia was unable to accept what her passions for all of them would mean. She ran from her forbidden lust and from them. Now the war is ending and her feelings of love return full force. She is still guilt ridden about her passion but also about her abandonment of their love. The men are battle scarred mentally and physically but long for the comfort of home and Celia’s love. Celia has to discover what is more important for her life and the life of the three men who never stopped loving her, no matter what people or society’s judgments might be.

This is a sweet love story that concentrates much more on the characters’ emotions and motivations, Celia’s self discovery in particular, than on the sexual situations possible with a foursome. This is a well written short story of true love overcoming the obstacles of society’s prohibitions and the hardships of World War I. The love scenes are steamy but still emphasize the bond between these special people. Although the story is about the love of 3 men for Celia we only actually get to meet 2 of them after the war, the third man is still at the battle front until they get word of him at the very end. Based on the fact this story did include a ménage and explored an unconventional relationship between one woman and three men I gave it a Very Sensual rating. eXtasy Books gave it a Scorcher rating I’m sure because of the sexual themes explored, however the word that kept coming to my mind was s! weet. This was a heartwarming story of the power of love and second chances set in an interesting historical time period.

Overall rating:
Sensuality rating: Very sensual
